The third film in the Great Repatriation project explores the emigration of repatriates to Armenia during 1946-49, a trend that began gaining momentum after Stalin’s death and peaked in the 1960s-80s. This wave of emigration is often traced back to 1956, during French Foreign Minister Christian Pineau’s visit to the Soviet Union, including Soviet Armenia.During Pineau’s visit, a group of French-Armenians took the unprecedented step of demonstrating publicly, demanding the diplomat’s help to return to France. By the 1960s-70s, many repatriates felt disillusioned, believing their devotion to Armenia had gone unacknowledged. Others felt they had been unwitting participants in Stalin’s geopolitical strategy.
